GPCB files plaint for chemical dumping

Ahmedabad: An officer of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) registered a case against an unidentified person after he found four broken plastic drums and some blackish substance or liquid spilled on the ground.
The complainant, who works as the deputy environmental engineer at the GPCB, Ahmedabad East, stated that on Thursday he conducted a site inspection based on an application. “We contacted the complainant, and in his presence, inspected the location in one of the plots in Shahwahi, Narol, Ahmedabad.”
After digging 3-4 feet, the GPCB team found 3-4 broken plastic drums from which a blackish substance was spilling out. Acidic fumes were emanating from the substance with a pH level of around 2, indicating it is an acidic chemical that could harm living beings, the environment, and the land through pollution.
The officer registered a case on Friday under BNS sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 280 (making atmosphere noxious to health), 286 (negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substance), and various other sections of the Environmental Protection Act-1986.
