Ahmedabad: City youth Ranvir Desai set a Guinness World Record for the highest number of rear pull-ups in a minute. In Nov last year, the 24-year-old fitness enthusiast completed 46 rear pull-ups in a minute, surpassing a five-year-old record set by a South Korean athlete, who completed 45 rear pull-ups in a minute in 2019.
Ranvir, who practised various versions of pull-ups since the age of 15, said that he works on his fitness for about one and a half hours daily and follows a strict vegetarian diet. “It feels nice to be the Guinness World Record holder.
Rear pull-ups require strong biceps, arms, and back muscles. I trained very hard for about two years to break the existing record,” Ranvir said.
Interestingly, he also held the Guinness World Record for the highest number of burpee pull-ups. On June 21, 2020, he completed 25 burpee pull-ups, after preparing for the event for close to two years.
“This record in my name was broken about six months ago by a US Army soldier, who completed 26 burpee pull-ups in a minute,” Ranvir said.
He is presently pursuing an LLB degree in the city. Ranvir dedicated his feat to his late grandmother Shantaben Desai. “I was extremely attached to her and she was a source of inspiration for me. I dedicated my world record to my grandmother,” he said.
On his future plans, Ranvir said he plans to break the record for the most number of muscle-ups in four minutes. “I have been training hard and there are several categories for the Guinness records for pull-ups that I can attempt,” said the athlete.
