A senior official privy to the development stated that Gujarat has made a headstart in attracting global companies in the semiconductor industry and key companies are setting up units already.
“Taiwan is a world leader in the semiconductor industry. The state govt has decided to establish its first global office in Taipei to facilitate fresh investments in Gujarat by Taiwanese semiconductor companies and global companies based out of Taiwan,” the source said. “We plan to initiate a help desk that can assist Taiwanese companies in their language and provide various levels of support for their operations in Gujarat. Operations of the centre in Taipei City are likely to commence soon. This will be Gujarat govt’s first office outside India,” said a senior official.
Govt officials said that of the five semiconductor facilities sanctioned by the govt of India under the Semicon India programme, four projects are being established in Gujarat. A chip packaging cluster is being developed in GIDC Sanand with major projects by Micron Technology Inc, C G Semi and Kaynes Semicon. Moreover, India’s first commercial semiconductor fab is being established in Dholera SIR by TATA Electronics Pvt Ltd.
Officials added that Gujarat govt, in collaboration with the Centre will also organize the Indian Semiconductors and Packaging Ecosystem Conference in March.
