Gandhinagar: Within a couple of days of making an announcement to launch a statewide campaign to sensitize citizens about obesity, chief minister Bhupendra Patel convened a meeting of officials of various departments and asked them to chalk out a concrete action plan to educate citizens about obesity and initiate steps to reduce obesity.
Officials said the CM convened a meeting with officials of the state health and family welfare department, sports, youth & cultural affairs department, education department, urban development department and the chief minister’s office (CMO) to discuss possible measures to control obesity in state.
“One of the important suggestions made was educating school students about the adverse effects of obesity on human health and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” officials said.
“Officials of the sports & youth affairs department were asked to initiate separate activities encouraging citizens to adopt wholesome lifestyle habits. Urban development and other departments concerned were asked to chalk out their respective action plans to address obesity,” said sources.
