Gujarat National Law University student ends life on campus | Ahmedabad News

AHMEDABAD: A student’s suicide has sent shockwaves through the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) campus in Gandhinagar. Vansh Gaint, 21, a third-year student of the university’s five-year integrated LLB course was found dead in his dorm room, with investigators and authorities saying that, prima facie, the reason behind the extreme step is not known. Infocity police have launched an investigation after registering a case of accidental death.
Officials from the investigating team said that fellow students discovered Vansh, a native of Patiala in Punjab, on the floor of his dorm room at around noon on Tuesday. They had broken the door down after he failed to respond to repeated calls or open the door.
He had apparently hanged himself from the latch and was found on the floor.
University authorities said that the in-house medical team was brought in, after which Vansh was taken to a private hospital near Bhat for further treatment. He was declared dead after about 45 minutes of admission. Authorities said that the family reached the hospital by evening.
Terming the incident as unfortunate, university registrar Dr Nitin Malik, said, “Our prayers are with the family. The family was apprised of the situation and assured of all possible help in the probe. As they wanted a full forensic investigation, the mortal remains were sent to the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. After due procedure, the family will fly the mortal remains to their native place for last rites,” he said.
“No primary reason for the step has been ascertained. We have extended psychological help to his classmates and other students. During primary talks, students termed Vansh as an energetic and helpful student associated with various activities. Many saw him going about his routine on Tuesday,” added Dr Malik. “He also spoke to his family in the morning.” V R Kher, inspector of Infocity police station, said that statements of his family and other students will be recorded.
