Gandhinagar: Claiming that sufficient water will be available in the state during the summer months, the state govt said on Monday that the 207 reservoirs in Gujarat presently have 57% of their total storage capacity.
The govt said that on April 7 last year, reservoirs of the state were filled to a capacity of 50.84%, and this year there is ample water in reservoirs owing to adequate rainfall in the last monsoon season.
State water resources minister Kunvarji Bavaliya said that the state govt has launched several water conservation campaigns like the Sujalam Sufalam water conservation scheme, making Gujarat self-reliant in water management. He added that the Sujalam Sufalam campaign this year, which will run from April 4 to May 31, will further enhance the water storage capacity of waterbodies in the state.
Providing details on the current status of reservoirs, the minister said that the Sardar Sarovar project currently holds 61.95% of its total capacity. In South Gujarat, 13 reservoirs have more than 62% water storage, Central Gujarat’s 17 reservoirs have 56.21%, Saurashtra’s 141 reservoirs have 44.44%, Kutch’s 20 reservoirs have 41%, and North Gujarat’s 15 reservoirs have 34.95% water storage.
