Gujarat’s energy supply up 28% in 4 years: Union govt | Ahmedabad News


Gandhinagar: Gujarat witnessed a 28% increase in energy supply in the past four years, the Union govt informed the Parliament on Monday. In response to a question by MP Parimal Nathwani, the Union govt said that the energy supply for Gujarat increased from 1,13,939 million units in FY2020 to 1,45,740 million units in FY2024.
Replying to a question by Nathwani, Union minister of state for power Shripad Naik also said that in the first nine months of FY2025, the energy supply in Gujarat touched 1,13,697 million units. The minister added that the govt plans to increase India’s total installed generation capacity from all sources to 900GW in 2031-32.
According to the statement of the minister, the govt transformed the country from power deficit to power sufficient in the past 10 years. The present installed generation capacity of the country is 4,62,065MW. The govt addressed the critical issue of power deficiency by adding 2,30,050 MW of generation capacity since April 2014, according to the minister.
The minister said in his reply that the installed generation capacity in 2031-32 is likely to be 900GW, including capacity from conventional sources, renewable sources and battery energy storage system.
He also said that the Union ministry of power, in consultation with states, envisaged a plan to add thermal capacity of a minimum of 80,000MW by 2031-32. He also said that 13,997.5MW of hydroelectric projects and 8,000MW pumped storage projects (PSP) are under construction. The minister also informed that 7,300MW of nuclear capacity is under construction and targeted to be completed by 2029-30.
