AFP reported that the man started firing gunshots at security forces, which in turn applied the rules of engagement, which resulted in the killing of the perpetrator.

The three injured police personnel were receiving treatment. An investigation was launched into the incident.

Police cordon off the area

The Jordanian police had cordoned off the area near the embassy after gunshots were heard, the news agency Reuters reported citing two witnesses.

The witnesses said that police and ambulances were rushed to the Rabiah area.

The area is a flashpoint for frequent demonstrations against Israel. Jordan has witnessed some of the biggest peaceful rallies across the region as anti-Israel sentiment runs high over the war in Gaza.

Many of Jordan’s 12 million citizens are of Palestinian origin.
