Ahmedabad: Two men allegedly smuggling liquor from Rajasthan in a car caused mayhem on city roads on Sunday, smashing into seven vehicles during an intense police chase. Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) officers eventually seized Rs 24.21 lakh worth of IMFL and arrested the suspects near Chimanbhai Patel Bridge. Police say the duo had operated for five years and were en route to deliver the stock to local clients in Ahmedabad.The pursuit left multiple vehicles, including a BMW, damaged, stated the FIR filed with Ranip police. The car, coming from Rajasthan, was carrying 3,108 bottles and beer cans concealed under cardboard boxes and cloth.The driver, Ashokkumar Rabari (19) from Jalore, Rajasthan, and his accomplice Ashish Kori (27) from Khokhra, Ahmedabad, were arrested at the scene. Police also recovered two fake numberplates from the car, which they believe were used to dodge surveillance.The FIR, filed with Ranip police, includes charges under the Gujarat Prohibition Act, relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Motor Vehicles Act. Officials say more arrests are likely as they trace the wider smuggling network.
