NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said that the Maha Kumbh stampede issue, that led to the death of 30, was more important than the Union Budget 2025.
He added that the government and administration had failed to provide the “numbers of deceased and those who are missing.”
Ahead of the Budget session at the Parliament, Yadav said, “…There is a more important thing than budget at the moment – people in Maha Kumbh are still looking and searching for their relatives. The CM has been there many times, the Union home minister has gone there, the vice president is going today and the prime minister will also go there – in a Maha Kumbh where many people died and the govt has failed to provide the numbers of deceased and those who are missing.”
“Hindus have lost their lives – the govt must wake up – I said earlier as well to call the Army there. This has been the first time that saints have denied having Shahi (Amrit) Snan..,” he added.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath is set to visit Prayagraj, his first trip since the Mahakumbh stampede. During his visit, he would welcome vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar and join him in Mahakumbh-related programs.
Earlier this week, a stampede during the Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual at the Mahakumbh mela claimed at least 30 lives and left 60 others injured.
In response, a three-member judicial commission has been formed to investigate the causes and circumstances of the incident. The panel is expected to submit its report within a month.
