Ahmedabad: The Gandhinagar special operation group (SOG) arrested one Shankar Goswami on Saturday, who was allegedly involved in the murder of Navin Shah, one of the directors at Navneet Publication. Shah was found murdered on the outskirts of Gajan Village in Aravalli district.
Goswami had been evading arrest for eight years in the murder and kidnapping case of Shah.
After gathering information from Adalaj Police about Goswami’s role in the crime, SOG began an investigation in Ahmedabad. Based on technical analysis and human resources, SOG traced Goswami’s location at Prime Dine Hotel in the Jodhpur area of the city.
Acting on this information, the suspect was apprehended at the hotel under a court-issued arrest warrant and handed over to Adalaj Police for further proceedings.
The SOG officials said that the investigation revealed Goswami was hiding in different states after the incident. However, after the pandemic, he concealed his identity and worked as a Chinese helper at a hotel in Jodhpur.
SOG officials said that the suspects conspired and kidnapped Shah on July 25, 2017 near Vaishnodevi Circle to extort money. They abducted him in a black Safari vehicle, killed him, and disposed of his body in a ditch by the roadside in Gajan village, in Malpur taluka in Aravalli district. The accused allegedly removed gold jewellery, a ring, a purse, and identification documents from the deceased. The accused demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore from his family.
The police have arrested six out of the eight accused, and these six were charged with murder, kidnapping, demanding ransom, and destruction of evidence. In 2022, the six were sentenced to life imprisonment. The police said that Maunik Patel and Shankar Goswami were absconding. MSID:: 117557655 413 |
