NEW DELHI: A 44-year-old man was killed and another severely injured in a leopard attack in Gujarat‘s Gir Somnath district, a forest official said on Sunday.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in Kodiya village, Gir Gadhada taluka, when the victims were sleeping outside their homes near a farm, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Karan Bhatia said.
“The leopard attacked Waghabhai Vaghela, dragging him some distance before villagers raised an alarm. Vaghela was killed on the spot, and the leopard fled.
The big cat returned later and attacked another man, leaving him seriously injured,” Bhatia added. The injured man is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
In response, forest officials have placed six cages in the area to capture the leopard.
This incident follows a series of similar attacks in the region. On Tuesday night, 76-year-old Diwaliben Jogia was fatally attacked by a leopard while she slept on the porch of her house in Fareda village.
Two days prior, a seven-year-old girl was mauled to death in neighboring Amreli district.
Rising human-animal conflict in the Gir region has raised concerns among locals, prompting demands for immediate action to capture leopards venturing into human habitats and relocate them to forested areas.
