Ahmedabad: With the monsoon staying vigorous over Gujarat, several regions, especially South Gujarat, received moderate to heavy rain on Thursday. For Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rain for the region, and light to moderate showers for other parts of the state. Apart from 5mm of rain in Ahmedabad city, Daskroi received 7mm and Dholera 6mm of rain. The sky remained overcast in Ahmedabad, with the maximum temperature remaining at 31 degrees celsius, 7.2 degrees below normal.Along with the monsoon trough from northwest Uttar Pradesh to North Gujarat, the state is also experiencing an upper cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan, an IMD bulletin stated. The met office forecast heavy rain in parts of Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, and Tapi on Friday, and light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30-40 kmph in other parts of the state. On Saturday, along with South Gujarat, parts of Banaskantha and Sabarkantha may receive heavy rain. For Monday and Tuesday, IMD issued an Orange Alert for Sabarkantha and Aravalli.On Thursday, the top seven talukas with the highest rainfall till 8pm were in Valsad. Vapi received 173mm, followed by 128mm in Pardi, 115mm in Kaprada, and 108mm in Dharampur. In all, 17 talukas — all in South Gujarat — received 50mm or more of rain, according to State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) data.
