Ahmedabad: With three more days to go before the grand 18km rath yatra on city roads, the Shri Jagannathji Temple Trust officials announced that there will be no change in the route. The three chariots of Jagannathji, Balbhadraji, and Subhadraji will roll on the traditional route. The discussion on the route change took place due to ongoing high-speed rail network construction work near Kalupur.Mahendra Jha, the trustee of the temple, told the media on Monday that there will be 18 elephants, 101 trucks and tableaux, 30 akhadas, and 18 bhajan mandalis as part of the 148th rath yatra. “After returning from maternal uncle’s home (mosal), the deities will have Sona Vesh (golden attire) darshan, and then after the Pahind ritual — ritualistic cleaning of the path with a golden broom — the procession will start on Friday morning from the temple,” he said.On Monday, the temple was abuzz with activities, with the volunteers giving a final touch to the preparations. The temple authorities said that with a forecast for rain this week, they have also prepared a covered area with canopies for the chariots. On Monday, scores of citizens visited the temple to look at the mameru or the gifts by the maternal uncle to the deities, which include the clothes worn on the day of the rath yatra and other valuables. Many also donated sprouted green gram (mung) that is distributed among the devotees as prasad during the procession. It is the second year of the newly constructed wooden chariots, which are taller and sturdier compared to the previous chariots used for the procession. The colouring and repairs of the chariots are completed, said temple authorities. The elephants were also decked up for the occasion, they added.
