Ahmedabad: Tension gripped Maninagar area when a man, Ajay Naik, climbed on top of a mobile tower. The fire brigade officials had to call for a snorkel to rescue Naik. The incident took place on Friday.
According to the police, the incident was reported at 6.40 on Friday evening after passersby noticed a youth on top of the mobile tower near Avkar Hall. The fire personnel and the police rushed to the spot.
The fire officers decided to call for a snorkel, using which they reached the top of the tower and rescued Naik. Pravinsinh Solanki, the sub-fire officer, said, “We suspect that Naik was drunk.”
The cops said that the youth would be taken to the hospital where he would be tested to find out if he had consumed any intoxicant. Isanpur senior officials said, “Naik was a labourer and had been unable to find work these past few days. He was under severe stress. On Friday, he had a dispute with his family, after which he climbed on top of the mobile tower,” said police.
As the news spread, several people from the area gathered and began recording the entire rescue operation with their cameras. “The Isanpur police arrested him as a precautionary measure,” said a senior cop.
