Ahmedabad: Gandhinagar police have arrested Pethapur resident Sagar Chauhan, 21, for his alleged involvement in selling sim cards without requisite documents.
The Special Operation Group, Gandhinagar said that teams were formed to apprehend individuals committing crimes by acquiring sim cards through fraudulent means. During this surveillance, the team received a tip-off about sale of sims in the Pethapur area and detained Chauhan and recovered 15 pre-activated sim cards.
Questioning revealed that Chauhan was a sim card agent for a telecom company and sold sim cards activated using other customers’ identity documents.
He would make two sets of documents for a genuine customer and use one to get other cards activated. These activated cards were then sold to those looking to hide their real identity. Cops are investigating how many such cards Chauhan sold and to whom. Chauhan has been booked for forgery, criminal breach of trust and using forged documents as genuine.
