Ahmedabad: Two labourers working on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project were found to be wanted murder accused from Punjab. Acting on a tip-off shared by Punjab police, the Gujarat anti-terrorist squad (ATS) apprehended Bikramjeet Singh Nirvir Singh alias Bikka and Bikramjeet Singh Amarjeet Singh from a labour colony near the project site in Nadiad, said an official statement of the ATS on Tuesday.
The duo was wanted in connection with a murder case registered on March 9, at Mehta police station, Amritsar district in Punjab.
During the interrogation of earlier arrested accused, Sharanjeet Singh and Vishwambhar, Punjab police learned of the involvement of Bikka and Bikramjeet in a murder attempt at Timmowal and a murder conspiracy at Chunggam, both under Mehta police station limits in Amritsar.
Following this lead, Punjab police coordinated with Gujarat ATS officials, who developed the input further. A team led by PI J N Chavda of Gujarat ATS traced the accused to the Nadiad-based worker colony. Upon being questioned, both individuals revealed their real identities.
“The accused were taken to the ATS office in Chharodi of Ahmedabad for preliminary interrogation, during which they confessed to their role in the violent crimes alongside the previously arrested co-accused,” said an ATS official. ATS officials said that procedures are underway to hand over the accused to Punjab police for further legal action.
