Elon Musk’s social media platform X has now complied with the Brazil court’s demands and will further resume its operations in the country.
The Brazilian Supreme Court banned platform X in August due to its failure to adhere to court orders related to hate speech moderation.
However, now, the platform has signaled a change in its stance, indicating its compliance to address the court’s concerns.
Earlier on Saturday, the Brazilian court asked Elon Musk’s social media platform to present documents validating its new legal representative.
As X complied with the Brazilian court’s demands, it has renamed Rachel de Oliveira Conceicao as its legal representative in Brazil. This is a crucial requirement for foreign companies operating in the country.
Brazil has a law, which requires foreign companies to have a legal representative to operate in the country officially. The representative would assume the legal responsibilities for the firm locally.
Moreover, the company has also agreed to pay fines amounting to over USD 3 million and has begun blocking specific accounts identified in a hate speech and misinformation investigation.
Watch | Tracking the Standoff Between Musk & Brazilian Regulators
This comes after a months-long conflict between US billionaire Elon Musk and Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes over the firm’s non-compliance with court orders demanding the platform to take action against the spread of hate speech, which the billionaire termed as censorship.
Despite the ban, X was accessible to many users in Brazil for a limited period of time.
The latest move by Musk’s X is likely motivated by a desire to maintain a presence in the Brazilian market, which is a significant region for X’s global operations.
