The convergence of traffic from all directions due to construction-related space constraints at these junctions, exacerbated by the absence of traffic personnel during this time have been identified as the reasons behind periods of chaos that last 15-20 minutes.
A five-year collaborative effort between the state govt’s roads and building department, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to upgrade SG Road is progressing, with several flyovers already completed and more under construction.
The project aims to six-lane the stretch from Nana Chiloda to Sarkhej, easing traffic flow on this vital artery.
“Following the completion of flyovers at Khodiyar, Pakwan, Vaishnodevi and Sola, work has commenced on a new flyover spanning the Karnavati-YMCA stretch. The plans include a continuous flyover covering the Karnavati and Prahladnagar crossroads, extending to Mumatpura,” said a senior AMC official.
A flyover at Gota, extending via Chharodi over Jagatpur Junction to Nirma, is also under way. Upon completion, a 15km stretch up to the Narmada canal will have a continuous flyover.
