Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad city district education office (DEO) served a notice to a private school in Chandkheda for collecting more fees from students than stipulated by the fee regulatory committee.
Following allegations that Sakar English School charged Rs 8,000 more from the students, the district education office demanded the school present fee records from the previous academic sessions and additional charges collected for supplementary activities.
Sources said there were several complaints against the school regarding fee collection exceeding the committee-approved amount for Classes 1 to 8.
While the FRC sanctioned Rs 30,870 as fee for pre-primary to Class 8, the institution allegedly collected Rs 39,000 from parents who submitted complaints along with the supporting documentation to the DEO office.
Following an investigation that confirmed the allegations, Ahmedabad City district education officer Rohit Chaudhary issued an official notice to the school, sources said.
The school is now required to furnish fee-related information for academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25, including charges for additional activities. The school authorities have been directed to appear personally within five days to submit their explanation.
The district education office warned that failure to comply with the notice within the stipulated time-frame will result in actions under the Right to Education Act.
