AHMEDABAD: A 25-year-old doctor was stabbed inside Lokhandwala Hospital in Dariapur by three men, including a patient, following a dispute over filing a medico-legal case. The incident took place late on Monday night.
The victim, Dr Safwan Badi, was on duty when two unidentified men, estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old, brought in a patient with multiple injuries around 9.15pm.
After examining the patient, the hospital staff informed them that the case required police intervention and advised them to seek treatment elsewhere since no surgeon was available.
The situation quickly escalated when the men accompanying the patient began arguing with hospital staff.
The patient, despite his injuries, joined the confrontation and the situation soon turned violent.
During the scuffle, one of the assailants pulled out a knife from his waistband and stabbed Dr Badi in the left side of his chest near the ribs.
As Dr Badi began screaming for help, staff members and visitors at the hospital rushed to his aid, forcing the attackers to flee the scene.
Dr Ayaz, another doctor on duty, immediately called an ambulance, and Dr Badi was rushed to the trauma ward of the Civil Hospital in Asarwa for emergency treatment.
Despite suffering serious injuries, he is reportedly conscious and stable. The victim has stated that he can identify the attackers.
Dariapur police registered a complaint of causing grievous hurt against three accused. However, police did not register a case of attempted murder even though Badi was stabbed on the left side of his chest.
