Passengers stood in line for 24 to 48 hours to sit in the general coach.

Surat : Surat is an industrial city. People of many states live here. People who come to seek employment have made Surat their work ground. Keeping in mind the festival of Diwali, people are going to their hometown. Especially lakhs of people living in Surat of Bihar are going to their hometown for Chhath Puja. As a result, the condition of Surat railway station has become dire.

Surat is a metropolitan city. Surat is also known as Little India. People from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh also live in Surat for employment purposes. These migrants living in the city have left for their native North India. However, for the expatriates of Surat, the longing for their own homeland is getting too much. More than 5000 passengers have been forced to travel in a train with a capacity of 1700. During festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja, thousands of North Indians living in Surat are going to their hometowns. A large number of pilgrims are thronging Surat Railway Station to travel in the Tapi Ganga Express train bound for Chapra at Surat Railway Station. It is as if crowd has emerged at the railway station. Passengers stood in line for 24 to 48 hours to sit in the general coach.

However, even after this long wait, no seat was found. Some passengers are forced to sit in the window and some in the toilet. There are some passengers who could not travel due to lack of space in the train despite having tickets. Passengers standing with tickets could not board the train due to overcrowding. As more than 5000 passengers were on board the train with a capacity of 1700, the passengers who stood in line for 24 to 48 hours after taking tickets could not board the train.
