Primary teachers seek GPSC exam eligibility | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Primary teachers in the state are seeking recognition of their teaching experience for the upcoming Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) Class II education service exam. The association has petitioned the education minister to address this concern, as new recruitment rules no longer consider primary teaching experience valid for these exams.
GPSC is scheduled to announce approximately 300 Class II vacancies in July. While secondary and higher secondary teaching experience remains valid for these positions, primary teachers — despite their qualifications and experience — are currently ineligible to apply.
This represents a significant shift from previous policies, where primary teachers could participate in all education service exams, including Class I, Class II and taluka primary education officer (TPEO) positions. The association argues that this restriction contradicts the govt’s push for higher teacher education, as many primary teachers now hold advanced qualifications.
Adding to the complexity, about 3,000 secondary and higher secondary school teachers lack the required five to seven months of experience, potentially limiting the candidate pool.
