Ahmedabad: A 48-year-old resident of Vadodara, a businessman, in his complaint on Friday with the Satellite Police, stated that he was cheated out of Rs 23.39 lakh by a visa agent in the city who promised permanent residency for Canada but failed to get it processed.
Police registered a case of cheating and breach of trust against a resident of New Naroda who has his office in the Satellite area.
The complainant stated that he was introduced to the New Naroda resident, the owner of a visa consultancy firm, by one of his friends. “In May 2021, I visited his office in Satellite, and the owner assured me of obtaining a Canadian visa quickly and at a very affordable rate. Trusting him, we discussed PR visas for myself, my wife, and our son. We agreed to pay Rs 30 lakh in instalments for getting the PR visa,” stated the complainant.
After meeting him, the owner checked the documents and assured that the process would take eight to ten months. The complainant claimed that he even paid Rs 6 lakh as the first instalment.
The complainant stated that once the cheque was cleared, they were called for a medical check-up at a hospital in Gandhinagar and even filled forms. The complainant claimed that in all, they paid Rs 23.39 lakh in instalments.
Apart from the medical check-up and police verification, no further action was taken, the complainant said. “Despite numerous calls and visits to his office, the owner made various excuses and delayed the process for about six months. Later, he closed his office and changed locations,” the complaint mentions.
“We managed to find his new office, but he admitted that no action was taken regarding the Canadian visa and refused to return the money,” the complainant stated.
