Tree cutters were bought to speed up the work to open roads, where trees fall during monsoon
Vadodara: The fire brigade owned by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation is overburdened during monsoons and storms. Also, when a storm or heavy rain hits, the incidence of tree falls generally increases. So the fire brigade team has to immediately cut down the fallen trees to open the road and the operation to cut down the trees that have encroached on the ground has to be carried out throughout the night.
In order for fire brigade personnel to carry out this work immediately in various areas and in view of monsoon and possible storm, more tree cutters are required for all four zones of the city, 20 units of petrol tree cutters were purchased under section 67 (3)C at a cost of 10.29 lakhs. A proposal has been presented in the Standing Committee to approve it. Earlier this purchase was made keeping in mind the tree felling operation as there was a danger of more trees falling when there was a cyclone forecast. 88,983 at the cost of 10 units and 20 units of the second model at the cost of 7.83 lakhs were purchased. It may be mentioned that, the Corporation’s Parks and Garden branch purchased 10 petrol operated tree cutters at the same price.
