Ahmedabad: The Congress party on Sunday alleged that private universities in the state have been arbitrarily increasing the intake of students beyond the permissible limit, compromising the quality of education.Party spokesperson Manish Doshi said, “The state govt has remained silent on private universities admitting twice the number of students approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in engineering and diploma courses. The state govt’s policy of not acting against irregularities of private universities is compromising the quality of education.”Doshi stated that there is a lack of transparency regarding the number of seats approved by AICTE, leading to confusion and issues for students and parents. “AICTE issues approval letters for B.Tech programmes to the state’s higher education secretary, but private universities often exceed these numbers. There is a lack of transparency on the admission committee for professional courses (ACPC) too. Many private universities increase their intake and add new programmes without the necessary infrastructure or faculty,” he said.He added, “We demand a halt to unregulated admissions and increase in fees. We want transparency. Faculty details and placement information should be easily accessible to students and parents.”
