Ahmedabad: Several schools across Gujarat, including those in Ahmedabad city, reportedly demanded additional documents from parents of children given admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, beyond those specified in the admit card.
In response, Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) Rohit Chaudhary issued a stern directive to all school managements, instructing them not to demand any extra documents during the RTE admission process. He warned that any school found violating this order would face strict action.

According to the education department’s April 28 data, a total of 86,274 students across the state were granted admission under RTE for Class 1. Parents of these students were required to confirm the admission at the allotted school by May 8. Only the original copies of documents mentioned in the admit card needed to be submitted at the time of confirmation.
Despite clear instructions, some schools reportedly asked for unnecessary documents such as additional income proofs, even though these were already submitted during the application process. This led to parents raising complaints of harassment.
The DEO made it clear that schools must complete the admission confirmation process by May 8 and issue a receipt of admission confirmation to the parents. If any school fails to do so, and the seat is considered vacant and re-allotted in the next round, the school will be held responsible for the confusion.
