Rs 220cr for Kalupur, Sarangpur overbridges

Gandhinagar: The state govt said on Sunday that it allocated Rs 220 crore for constructing the Kalupur and Sarangpur railway overbridges in the city. This is 50% of the cost of construction of the overbridges under the Ahmedabad railway station redevelopment project. Railway Land Development Authority will demolish the existing Kalupur and Sarangpur railway overbridges and construct new four-lane bridges at both spots at a cost of Rs 440 crore.
In addition, Rs 52.83 crore was allocated by the state govt in the form of its 50% share for the construction of a railway overbridge on the Radhanpur-Bhilot road. Construction of the bridge will improve connectivity between Radhanpur and Suigam, the statement said.
An official statement on Sunday said that the allocated funds will be utilised for four-laning the existing bridges, and the amount has been approved under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana.
The Kalupur railway overbridge (Manubhai Parmar Bridge) was constructed more than 100 years ago in 1915, and the Sarangpur railway overbridge was built in 1940. “Considering the lifespan, safety concerns, and the increasing traffic load, both the Kalupur and Sarangpur railway overbridges will be demolished and reconstructed into four-lane structures by the Railway Land Development Authority,” the statement said.
The state govt’s 50% share in the reconstruction of the Kalupur railway overbridge will be Rs 106.67 crore, and its 50% share in the reconstruction of the Sarangpur railway overbridge will be Rs 113.25 crore, the statement added.
