‘RSS wants to erase history’: Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav at DMK student wing protest against UGC draft rules | India News

NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday participated in the DMK student wing protest against the UGC draft rules.
Addressing the gathering, the Congress leader reiterated his attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) continuous attempt to “eradicate histories” saying, “I have been saying now for some time that the aim of the RSS is the eradication of all other histories, all other cultures, all other traditions in this country. That is their starting point, and that is what they want to achieve. They attacked the Constitution because they wanted to impose one idea, which is their idea, one history, one tradition and one language on this country.”
“This attempt that they’re doing with the education system of the different states is just another attempt to push their agenda… I wish that multiple protests like this happen because the RSS needs to be made to understand that they cannot attack the Constitution. They cannot attack our states. They cannot attack our cultures, our traditions and our histories,” he added.

SP MP and INDIA bloc ally Akhilesh Yadav slammed the central government and said that he was against the National Education Policy (NEP).
“… They want to take over all the power of state governments. They want to make politicians servants of industrialists. We can never support New Education Policy… I am supporting all the students here and the decision that you have taken. I am against NEP. I am against BJP,” he said.

According to UGC’s new draft guidelines, candidates can qualify for faculty positions in higher education institutions by clearing the UGC-NET in a subject of their choice, regardless of whether their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are in different disciplines. Additionally, the guidelines propose expanding the eligibility criteria for vice-chancellors, allowing professionals from academia, research institutions, public policy, public administration, and industry to be considered for the role.
Defending his stance, UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar told ANI, “The search-cum-selection committee will now be formed by the chancellor, which was not explicitly mentioned in the 2018 regulations.”
“This structure eliminates ambiguity and ensures a more transparent process,” he added.
