Ahmedabad: The city police’s She Teams rescued 18 children from street begging gangs and potential human traffickers in Ahmedabad. The operation was initiated as part of a special drive against street begging activities.
Following specific directives, the cops launched a three-day investigation across Ahmedabad to identify if youngsters involved in street begging were victims of human trafficking, drug trade, or forced begging. She Teams from every police station in Ahmedabad participated in this coordinated effort.
The initiative’s core objective was to safeguard children and ensure their proper rehabilitation from exploitative circumstances.
The She Teams conducted patrols throughout Ahmedabad, successfully rescuing 18 children. They initiated legal proceedings against individuals who compelled the children to beg, invoking the Juvenile Justice Act 2015. The rescued children received necessary medical attention during the investigation process.
The state home department has taken responsibility for these children’s rehabilitation. The She Teams will work alongside the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to facilitate the children’s educational needs, nutritional requirements, and healthcare support.
