
Ahmedabad: A road accident at Amikunj crossroads in Naranpura claimed the life of a 20-year-old student and left his friend injured during the late hours of Tuesday night. The incident, however, took a dramatic turn when a man appeared before the police confessing to be the driver of the car involved in the road accident, while witnesses claimed that a woman was behind the wheel of the vehicle.Aryan Barad, a BBA student from Chagia village in Sutrapada taluka of Gir-Somnath district, lost his life in the accident.Residing as a paying guest on CG road, Barad was with his friend Brijesh Dodiya, who later filed a complaint with B division traffic police. The incident occurred when they were returning after dinner.”At around 11 pm on May 13, I was riding pillion with Aryan who was driving his uncle’s two-wheeler. As we reached Amikunj crossroads, a white car came at high speed from the direction of AEC Crossroads and hit our vehicle. Aryan fell to the road and lost consciousness due to head injury. I also sustained injuries,” stated the FIR.”After hitting us, the car then rammed into a tree and stopped. The driver fled the spot. People at the scene called an ambulance. I was taken to Sola Civil Hospital, and Aryan was taken to Civil Hospital in Asarwa, where he was declared dead at 12.45 am on Wednesday,” Brijesh added.Although witnesses note the car’s registration number, controversy arose when bystanders claimed a woman was driving the vehicle. However, on Wednesday, a man presented himself at B division traffic police station, confessing to being the car driver. However, police have not arrested him.Inspector Alka Thakor confirmed the confession, “A man came and admitted that he was driving the car. But since the victim’s family said a woman was driving, we have not detained him. We are checking CCTV footage from 40 cameras.”When asked if the car driver had called the ambulance, Thakor initially confirmed, but later said, “I am not sure. Maybe locals made the call.”Following the accident, residents of the area have expressed concerns about the dangerous conditions on the road between DK Patel Hall and Amikunj Crossroads since the removal of speed bumps. Nilesh Shah from Malav Sky Flats stated, “Three accidents have taken place on this stretch in just one month. We have filed complaints with the municipal corporation, but there has been no response.”Police sources revealed that a man and a woman were present in the car when the accident occurred. While witnesses indicated the woman was driving, police have yet to officially identify the driver.The B Division police have initiated an investigation after registering charges of causing death by negligent driving and rash driving.
