NEW DELHI: BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday responded to Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Kuwait visit, accusing Congress leaders of engaging in “petty politics” while the prime minister works to enhance India’s global image.
“At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is spreading the glory and fame of India by visiting foreign lands, at such a time Congress leaders are issuing statements that defame the country to please their masters,” the BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said on Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s X post on PM Modi’s recent speech in Kuwait.
“Unfortunately, Rahul Gandhi’s so-called guru Digvijaya Singh’s statement is highly condemnable. It is anti-national. When the best leadership of India is marketing India on foreign lands, and spreading the flag of India at such a time, Digvijaya Singh remembers such a cheap thing,” he told news agency ANI.
The BJP’s response followed Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s remarks on X, where he criticised PM Modi claiming that while the prime minister’s international speeches advocate “world brotherhood,” his domestic rhetoric allegedly fosters division through “Hindutva.”
Taking to X, Singh wrote, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, I heard your speech in Kuwait. I appreciate it. I have been your biggest critic since the Godhra incident. It has become very difficult to control the hatred that you have spread between Hindus and minorities in this country. It is easy to take out the “genie of hatred” from the bottle but not to put it back in the bottle.”
“Now you and RSS are giving the message of making India a “world brother” to make it a “world leader”. Your foreign minister is also doing the same thing now. Can you not give this speech in India instead of abroad? Here your speech spews the “poison of hatred”. Going abroad, especially in Islamic countries, you advocate “world brotherhood” but in India you advocate “Hindutva”. Savarkar himself has said that “Hindutva” has nothing to do with “Hinduism or Sanatan Dharma. I have only one request for you. Spread the message of ‘Leave hatred, unite India’ of Rahul Gandhi to the people and spread the message of ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam’ of Sanatan Dharma to the people,” the Congress leader added.
PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Kuwait at the invitation of Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years.
He was welcomed with a grand ceremonial reception and Guard of Honour, earlier today. The ceremony took place at the Bayan Palace, with the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah in attendance.
The prime minister also engaged in comprehensive discussions with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
He also toured a labour camp in Kuwait housing around 1,500 Indian workers and participated in the Gulf Cup football opening ceremony, earlier on Saturday.
