Ahmedabad ENT team performed cochlear implantation in 2 children from Surat

Basically, diagnosing deaf-dumb disease, which occurs in one in 1000 children, will now be possible free of charge at government hospitals. Successful ‘cochlear implant’ operation of two children has been done by a team of ENT doctors from Ahmedabad for the first time in Surat’s New Civil Hospital on Friday.

However, Vaishnavi, a 3-year-old child born deaf and dumb from the Patil family of Udhana and Rudra, a 4-year-old from a deaf family, have got the happiness of hearing along with speech through ‘Cochlear Implant’. They found out that it costs around 8 to 10 lakhs in private.

468 training class once the surgery is done

According to doctor, this surgery takes three to four hours. Once the surgery is done, there are different training programs for the child to listen and speak early, in which there are total 468 training classes. This training lasts for 3 years. If the child is brought for this surgery on time, the child can speak and hear early.

The cost of this operation in private is Rs. 6 to 7 lakhs

Lastly, under the government’s ‘National Child Health Programme’ (RBSK), a free ‘Cochlear Implant’ surgery has been done in New Civil. The cost of this operation in private is 6 to 7 lakhs, while the same surgery is done free of charge in government hospitals.
