Surat MLA demands amendment in law to provide strict punishment to prevent food adulteration
Food adulteration is coming out in many cities of Gujarat including Surat and Rajkot. Also, many food samples are failing in Surat in the last one month, but as adulterous traders are not given strict punishment, food adulteration is not stopped due to which the MLA of Surat has demanded an amendment in the law for the provision of strict punishment to stop food adulteration.
Currently in Surat, samples of many items including paneer, cheese, mayonnaise, ice cream, ice dish, cake-pastry and pepper-masala have failed in the laboratory test. Apart from this, since there is a culture in the city, food items are being sold on many hawkers, due to such inedible substance, there has been a threat to the health of the people. Surat Varachha MLA Kumar Kanani has written a letter to the Chief Minister demanding to amend the law so that people’s health is not endangered.
A provision of the Act to prevent adulteration of food items injurious to the health of the people in Surat. It seems that, the provision of punishment is very less. It is also sent to the laboratory for analysis. The report comes after a very long time. Food adulteration is a major public health hazard. It destroys people’s consciousness and often leads to death.
