Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil said in Ahmedabad on Friday that the AMC-run SVP Hospital overcharged a patient and later retracted inflated medical bills. Addressing reporters at the GPCC headquarters, Gohil demanded that a judicial inquiry be conducted against exploitative practices by private- and govt-run hospitals in the state.
Gohil said that a patient admitted to SVP Hospital was told that since the family had an Ayushman card, they would not receive any bill. Later, when the patient wanted to seek treatment elsewhere due to dissatisfaction, they were told they would have to pay Rs 67,000.
“The patient’s family approached me, and when the family was handed a medicine bill of Rs 29,899, they threatened to protest. The staff relented, and the medical bill was reduced to Rs 3,069,” he said.
