AHMEDABAD: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport announced on Wednesday that it introduced a cloud-based smart irrigation system aimed at significantly reducing water consumption across its horticulture zones.Spread over 17 acres of green cover, the new system uses real-time weather data and soil sensors to determine the precise water needs of plants, ensuring no drop is wasted. The move is projected to save over 17.85 million litres of water every year, roughly equivalent to the daily water requirement of around 132,000 people, according to estimates provided by SVPIA.The automated irrigation network adjusts watering schedules dynamically based on climatic conditions, enhancing both efficiency and sustainability. Officials said the system allows remote operation from control rooms or mobile devices, offering flexibility and improved oversight.
