Ahmedabad: Civil flight operations at several airports across India, including eight in Gujarat, have been suspended until May 15, leading to widespread flight cancellations and passenger inconvenience. The closed airports in Gujarat include Bhuj, Jamnagar, Kandla, Keshod, Mundra, Rajkot, Porbandar and Naliya. These are among a total of 32 non-operational airports across the country as part of a temporary restriction, reportedly due to heightened operational considerations. At Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad, 16 flights were cancelled. Services to and from Chandigarh, Kishangarh, Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar and Bhuj were particularly affected. In response, airlines introduced passenger-friendly measures. Air India, in a travel advisory, announced a one-time waiver on rescheduling charges or a full refund for ticket cancellations. “Following a notification from aviation authorities on continued closure of multiple airports in India, Air India flights to and from the following stations — Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar and Rajkot — are being cancelled until 0529 hrs IST on May 15, pending further updates,” the airline stated. IndiGo also issued an advisory, assuring full support to travellers during this period. “Due to security reasons, until airports reopen, IndiGo stands committed to supporting its customers during this time. We understand the uncertainty this situation may have caused and want to assure you that we’re here to help. Change and cancellation fees are being waived for bookings made during this period,” the airline said. Passengers with flight bookings on the affected routes can opt to reroute their travel via nearby operational airports at no extra cost. IndiGo also announced plans to operate relief flights for stranded passengers, with details to be shared as plans are finalised. Passengers are advised to check the latest updates and rescheduling options with the concerned airline staff. To and fro flights to Najaf have also been cancelled due to operational reasons.
