Ahmedabad: With the launch of the Summer Schedule 2025, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport in Ahmedabad is set for a busier season, handling 320 scheduled aircraft movements daily. While no new destinations have been added, flight frequency to existing routes has risen by 25% compared to the previous summer, which saw 256 daily movements.
“Airlines currently have a limited fleet available and therefore, across the country, there is no significant change in the destinations when it comes to direct air connectivity. While IndiGo Airlines is phasing out some of its old aircraft, a section of Air India’s fleet is also likely to be under maintenance. This will collectively cause several planes to be grounded,” explained a source privy to the development.
Despite the absence of fresh routes, airlines are boosting services to meet demand. IndiGo has increased flight frequency to Hyderabad from Ahmedabad, whereas SpiceJet has added Srinagar (five times a week) and Dehradun (daily), while Akasa is launching a daily Bagdogra flight too.
Airport sources told TOI that a direct flight from Ahmedabad to Phuket, Thailand is likely to begin in the coming months; however, the bookings for this are yet to begin.
“While the number of flights is rising, no new domestic or international destinations have been added. Airlines are focusing on resuming and increasing frequencies to existing cities, ensuring smoother connectivity despite limited aircraft availability,” the source told TOI.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Indian carriers will operate 25,610 weekly flights to and from 129 airports during this period. This expansion includes the introduction of seven new airports: Ambikapur, Datia, Bidar, Porbandar, Pakyong, Rewa, and Solapur.
The most travelled domestic routes from Ahmedabad this summer include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Hyderabad, while international favourites remain Dubai and Abu Dhabi in UAE, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait City in Kuwait, and Doha in Qatar. SVPI Airport will serve 49 domestic and 19 international destinations.
“Direct daily flights to destinations in Northern India will certainly add to the convenience of travellers during the upcoming summer season, when many tourists flock to colder climates leveraging the vacation period,” said an airport source.
SVPI Airport in Ahmedabad offers direct flights to around 48 domestic destinations, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Pune, Kochi, Kolkata, Chennai, Indore, Goa (North & South), Chandigarh, Srinagar, Bagdogra, Dehradun, Diu, Lucknow, Nagpur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Ayodhya, Amritsar, Jodhpur, Agra, Ranchi, Patna, and Bhuj.
It also connects Ahmedabad with direct flights to 16 international destinations, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait City (Kuwait), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Bangkok (Thailand), Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Singapore, London Gatwick (UK), and Najaf (Iraq).
