Ahmedabad: A college-going youth is fighting for his life after being attacked by three of his former schoolmates for sending a request to one of their female friends on social media. The three assaulted him, stole his mobile phones and tried to sell his two-wheeler.
The Ramol police arrested the three youths – also aged 19 –for attempted murder and robbery.
The incident occurred on Jan 8, according to a complaint filed by the victim’s mother. She told police, “My son went out to collect his clothes from the laundry. When he did not return till late, I tried his phone, but it was switched off. My relatives and I searched for him in Maninagar and Kankaria areas but could not find him.”
The mother initially filed a missing report with the Kagdapith police.
On Jan 11, around 9.30am, she learnt that her son was admitted to Civil Hospital for treatment. He was found unconscious at Kamdhenu Ground in Ramol and was admitted to the hospital with severe injuries on his head, lips, and nose, and there was fluid discharge from his ears.
“The doctor said that the injuries were caused using a stone or blunt object. His two mobile phone and two-wheeler was missing too,” said the mother in her complaint filed on Saturday.
During surveillance, the police received information that three teenagers were trying to sell a blue two-wheeler, without a numberplate, near Nagori Chali in Gomtipur. The cops raided the area and detained the three with the vehicle.
“Upon questioning, one of the accused confessed that the two-wheeler belonged to their schoolmate, and they had stolen it,” said police.
The three had studied with the victim in school. “They had a falling out. And, later, the victim sent an Instagram request to the female friend of one of the accused. Upset by this, he and his two friends called the victim to meet them outside their society. They took him to Kamdhenu Ground where they assaulted him with a cement block until he fell unconscious. Thinking he was dead, they fled with his phones and scooter,” said police.
The trio was handed over to Ramol police who formally arrested them.
