Three vegetable vendors on indefinite fast hospitalised | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: On Monday, the fourth day of the indefinite fast by vegetable vendors in Jodhpur village, three women who were part of the group, had to be hospitalised after taking ill. One needed medical aid on Sunday night. The three were admitted to Sola Civil Hospital. Vendors are demanding a proper marketplace from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Rakesh Maheria, who is leading the protest, said that Geeta Patni, 37, Anju Dabhi, 38, and Champa Patni, 65, felt uneasiness and had blood pressure problems, after which they were hospitalised.
Meanwhile, a delegation of vendors officials in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) seeking help and assurance over the issue. “A few women protesters visited the CMO on Monday and were assured that the issue would be resolved,” Maheria said. He said they were suggested to conduct their business at AMC’s newly constructed vegetable market behind Prahladnagar Garden. However, the place was far from the main road, and very few people visited that market, he added. It was alleged that AMC officers, their bouncers and other staffers evicted vendors from Jodhpur and also damaged their articles and vegetables earlier this month. One of the bouncers snatched a vendor’s phone and submitted it to Anandnagar police. Police did not take any action against civic body officials and the bouncers, alleged Maheria.
