Ahmedabad: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently conducted surprise inspections at affiliated schools across the country to ensure that standard educational practices are followed and the board rules are strictly adhered to. The board teams found 29 schools, including two schools in Ahmedabad, in violation of various rules, the board announced.
The two schools in Ahmedabad that were found to have violated board rules are Nirman High School in the Vastrapur area and The New Tulip International School in Bopal.
The board stated that the majority of the inspected schools were found to have violated the board’s affiliation bye-laws by enrolling more students than their actual attendance records, effectively creating ‘non-attending’ enrolments. Additionally, schools were also found to be flouting infrastructural norms of the board.
Ashish Desai, the trustee of Nirman High School, confirmed that there was an inspection at their school. “Our school was recently inspected by a board team, and they found everything to their satisfaction. We asked for approval of another school that also may be the reason for this inspection,” Desai said.
Yogesh Shridhar, the trustee of New Tulip International School, did not respond to several calls made by TOI.
A statement from the board reads that the inspections were carried out on Dec 18-19 in six zones — Delhi, Bengaluru, Patna, Varanasi, Bilaspur, and Ahmedabad. A total of 29 teams comprising a CBSE officer and a principal of an affiliate school conducted these surprise inspections. The objective of these inspections was to evaluate compliance with CBSE’s norms and affiliation bye-laws. The inspection teams focused on verifying student enrolment records, infrastructure facilities, and the overall functioning of the schools.
