Ahmedabad: The Satellite police have registered a case of cheating against two Rajkot residents for allegedly withdrawing Rs 20.5 lakh from fixed deposits using the deceased account holder’s mobile number.
The complainant, a 56-year-old who recently returned from Germany, stated that his father, a retired civil engineer, had worked in Iraq before settling in India in 1998. After his mother’s passing, his father lived alone in Ahmedabad and had informed him about several fixed deposits, naming him as the nominee.
As his father’s health declined, he moved to Rajkot to stay with a nephew, where he died in Aug 2022. The complainant, still in Germany, could not attend the funeral.
Upon returning to Ahmedabad three weeks later, he found two passbooks of a private bank detailing the FDs. To his shock, the deposits had already been withdrawn by his relatives, despite his nomination.
