Ahmedabad: Two TB patients were reportedly removed from the Civil Hospital purportedly by a resident doctor, early on Tuesday morning. Hospital authorities however claimed that the patients may have left the premises on their own. The hospital’s medical superintendent stated that a detailed probe was initiated, and both patients readmitted by Tuesday afternoon.According to residents of the area, a senior citizen saw an auto dropping off a man who was clearly unable to walk. The senior citizen informed his son, who followed the auto and saw another man being dropped off in the same manner at a distance. The son confronted the auto driver. In a video shot by the son, the driver is heard saying that a “young-looking” doctor called for the auto, gave him some money, and asked him to drop the two patients “outside Civil Hospital”.The incident created a furore and eventually reached Civil Hospital authorities. The two patients were hurriedly located and brought back to the TB ward through EMRI 108 ambulances. Sources said that both patients did not have any relatives or caretakers accompanying them.Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, told the media that the patients were aged 45 and 58 years. The former had been shifted from a hospital in Godhra, while the latter had been transferred from Sola Civil Hospital after suspected tuberculosis. “The patients were brought to the hospital at 9pm and 12.40am and were admitted to the TB ward. Their videos show the tag on their hands, indicating that they were admitted and provided primary treatment,” said Dr Joshi. “Local staff claimed that around 3am during the night round, the two patients were not found on their cots, and their files were also missing. Their version indicated that they left the premises on their own without informing the staff.”Dr Joshi stated this is a serious incident, and all on night duty on Monday are being questioned. “Action will be initiated not only against the doctor responsible but also against the head of the unit if the allegations are true. Currently, the patient from Godhra is stable, and we expect his statement to shed light on what happened early on Tuesday,” he said.Sources indicated that the state health department sought details of the incident from the hospital authorities on Tuesday.
