Two-year-old suffers food poisoning after eating cockroach-filled omelette in Air India

Date:

A passenger slammed Air India for allegedly serving an in-flight meal which had a cockroach because of which her two-year-old son suffered food poisoning.

The traveller, Suyesha Savant, recently flew from Delhi to New York on an Air India flight, after which she took to X to speak about her unpleasant experience.

“Found a cockroach in the omelette served to me on the @airindia flight from Delhi to New York,” said the traveller in her post.

“My 2-year-old finished more than half of it with me when we found this. Suffered from food poisoning as a result,” Savant added.

In the social media post, she also shared pictures of the dead cockroach present in the omelette.

The woman also posted a video which she had recorded on the flight to capture the filth on the plane.

“Even the pouches of this seat were not clean and it had waste bottles lying in it, and when I alerted the staff about it, they said it was a mistake. But how many mistakes?” Savant said.

Here’s how Air India reacted to the incident

Speaking to FOX Business, an Air India spokesperson said that they have knowledge about the incident.

The Air India employee said that the airline “works with reputed caterers who supply to leading airlines globally and have stringent SOPs [standard operating procedures] and multiple checks to ensure quality of meals served to our guests.”

“We are concerned about the experience of the customer in the said instance and have taken it up with our catering service provider to investigate it further. We will take necessary actions to prevent any recurrence of such instances in [the] future,” the spokesman added.

This is not the first time Air India has come under scrutiny over the hygiene conditions of their planes.

Another passenger had recorded his experience while flying first-class from Chicago to Delhi last week and said that it was the “worst first-class cabin I’ve ever been on.”

In the video, ripped furnishings, dirt-covered crevices, cabin filled with hair were seen.

“The entertainment system did not work the entire 15 hours. Everything was broken. They literally put tape on the wall to tape that stuff down. It was a nightmare. I was robbed on this flight,” the passenger said.
