UPSC aspirant accuses schoolmate of stalking, threats | Ahmedabad News


Ahmedabad: A 20-year-old woman preparing for UPSC exams, on Tuesday filed a complaint against a man for allegedly stalking, harassing, and threatening her with a knife. The accused was the complainant’s schoolmate.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on Monday near Riverfront Road. The woman, a Vatva resident, was returning home from her UPSC coaching class with a male friend when the accused, riding a two-wheeler with his sister, allegedly started following them.
He allegedly forced them to stop, hurled abuses and brandished a knife while issuing them death threats. He also allegedly pushed the woman twice, causing her to panic and call for help. Hearing her screams, the accused and his sister fled the scene, the complaint states.
The victim told police and she and the accused were schoolmates and were once friends. She did not remain in touch with him after joining college, after which, the accused allegedly began harassing her, stalking her and making unwanted advances.
The complainant and her father had approached police in Nov last year too after which the accused issued a written apology, promising not to trouble her again. The woman claimed that despite the apology, the man continued stalking her on her way to coaching classes.
After Monday’s incident, the woman informed her parents, who accompanied her to the police station to file a complaint. Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police registered an offence against the accused under the charges of assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, stalking, using abusive language, criminal intimidation, and abetment under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
