Iran Revolutionary Guards said Tuesday its missile attack on Israel targeted “three military bases” near Tel Aviv.
“We targeted three military bases around Tel Aviv”, Israel’s commercial hub, the Guards said in a statement carried by news agency ISNA.
Tehran Times, Iranian state-backed media, earlier reported that Israel’s Nevtim air base was targeted in the attack. The air base reportedly houses Israel’s F-35 fighter jets.
Responding to the attacks, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran said “a decisive response was given to the Zionist regime’s aggression.”
“In accordance with the legitimate rights and with the goal of ensuring peace and security for Iran and the region, a decisive response was delivered to the Zionist regime’s aggression,” Pezeshkian’s post on X read.
However, Israel claimed the attack didn’t impact the capacity of its armed forces.
IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told reporters that the Israeli Air Force “continues to operate at full capacity, and tonight will also continue to strike powerfully in the Middle East, as has been the case for the past year.”
White House said Iran’s ballistic missile assault on Israel was “defeated and ineffective” in a statement.
“Based on what we know at this point, this attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective,” Jake Sullivan, US President Joe Biden’s National Security Advisor, told reporters.
