Women cops to lead security for PM’s Women’s Day event | Ahmedabad News

Gandhinagar: Minister of state for home Harsh Sanghavi said on Thursday that security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s International Women’s Day programme in Gujarat on Saturday will be handled entirely by women cops of the Gujarat police.
Sanghavi told reporters in Gandhinagar that on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the PM will preside over a ‘Lakhpati Didi’ event at Wansi Borsi in Navsari district. More than 1.5 lakh women from across the state will attend the event.
“This will perhaps be the first instance where women cops of the Gujarat police will handle the entire security arrangements of the PM’s programme at Wansi Borsi, and only women police personnel will be in charge of law and order at the venue. It will also be a milestone for policing in Gujarat,” he said.
Sanghavi said that from the PM’s arrival at the helipad to the security arrangements along the route and at the venue, all security arrangements will be handled by women cops.
The minister said that women police personnel deployed for the event’s security will include 2,145 constables, 187 police sub-inspectors (PSIs), 61 police inspectors (PIs), 16 DySPs, 5 SPs, 1 IGP ranked officer, and 1 ADGP ranked officer. “The entire security arrangements of the PM’s programme will be coordinated by home secretary and IPS officer Nipuna Torawane,” Sanghavi said.
