Ahmedabad: Gandhinagar police detained 11 persons following violence that erupted in Dehgam town in Gandhinagar. The violence occurred after a late-night motorcycle rally was held to celebrate India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy.
The FIR registered in the early hours of Monday stated that a group of people organised a motorcycle rally in Dehgam town after India won the Champions Trophy final match against New Zealand on Sunday night. The rally was passing through a minority-dominated area when some bikers raced their two-wheelers, blaring horns. About 15 people present in the area abused the rally and attacked the bikers.
Police said that the attack was a fallout after the locals present raised objections to the noise made by the bikers. The accused damaged the two-wheelers left behind by the bikers following the attack, said the police.
“We have detained 11 persons for questioning,” said a senior officer. The complainant was the only one who sustained injuries. The complainant suffered a fracture due to a fall while trying to escape from the spot.
The accused were booked under sections of the BNS for unlawful assembly, rioting, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and mischief that causes damage to property.
