Ahmedabad: The special operations group (SOG), crime branch, of Ahmedabad City seized suspected hybrid ganja weighing 55.34 grams, worth Rs 1.66 lakh, from a vehicle near Dastan Circle.
Acting on a tip-off received by unarmed police constable Tarangkumar Ramanbhai, the team conducted a swift operation. The intelligence indicated that a white car from Surat was transporting illegal narcotics from Gandhinagar towards Aslali.
Upon spotting the suspect vehicle near Dastan Circle, the team intercepted it and identified the driver as Om Bhargav Patel, 21, a resident of Geeta Residency, Gandhinagar.
Following due legal procedure under NDPS Act Sections 43 and 50, the vehicle and person were searched in the presence of witnesses. A schoolbag containing two taped parcels of green plant-based material was found, along with identification documents and a mobile phone.
Preliminary field testing by FSL officer A S Patel confirmed the material to be ganja. The total value of seized items, including the car and mobile phone, is estimated at over Rs 4 lakh, said the FIR filed with the detection of crime branch (DCB) police.
Patel is believed to have got the ganja from a wanted accused, Dhyan Desai from Vadodara, said police officers.
A complaint under the NDPS Act has been filed against Patel and Desai, and an investigation is underway.
