Ahmedabad: An accident occurred near Dafnala in Shahibaug during the early hours of Saturday when a speeding car jumped the road divider and collided with an auto-rickshaw and another car. Moments later, the car caught fire and was completely gutted. Four people suffered injuries, and no lives were lost in the bizarre accident.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened around 3am when a hatchback car, coming from the Airport Circle towards Dafnala, lost control near the curve in front of the ACB office.
The driver reportedly hit the brakes suddenly, causing the vehicle to leap over the divider and crash into the oncoming rickshaw and another four-wheeler.
Following the collision, the occupants of the car managed to exit the vehicle before it caught fire, reportedly due to a short circuit. The car was quickly engulfed in flames and reduced to ashes. The three car passengers and the rickshaw occupants sustained minor injuries and were treated at a hospital, with all discharged after initial care.
According to an F-Division traffic police officer, an FIR was lodged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 281 (negligent conduct endangering human life) and Motor Vehicle Act sections 177 (general penalty for offences), 184 (driving dangerously), and 134(b) (duty of driver in case of accident — failure to report or help).
“The car was being driven recklessly and at high speed by Yash Rishi Amin, a resident of Isanpur,” said a police official.
“He lost control near the ACB office, jumped the divider, and hit an auto and another car. The car then caught fire. His friends — Parth Mewada, Jaimin Sindhan, and Mahesh Yadav — along with rickshaw passenger Kapoorji Bhat, suffered minor injuries,” he said.
Police are investigating further.
